Choosing an Installer

How to Choose a Solar Installer in Ireland: a 2026 Checklist

3 min read · October 2026 · By Paul

Solar Services Ireland vans outside a completed solar installation

A solar system should keep working for 25 years or more, so who installs it matters as much as which panels they fit. If you are looking for the best solar panel installers in Ireland, the honest answer is the one that passes the checks below. Use this list to compare quotes fairly and to spot the warning signs early.

1. Check they are properly registered

To claim the SEAI solar PV grant, the work needs to be done by an SEAI-registered installer. Ask for their registration details and check them against SEAI's list yourself. The electrical work should be done by a registered electrical contractor, which in Ireland means registration with a body such as Safe Electric. Ask for their number, check it, and expect a completion certificate when the job is done.

2. Ask for proof of insurance

Ask to see the insurance certificate, including public liability cover. Roofs, scaffolding and electrical work all carry risk, and you want to know what happens if something goes wrong.

3. Get like-for-like written quotes

A useful quote lists everything, so you can compare two installers fairly. Look for:

  • System size in kWp and the number of panels
  • Make and model of the panels and the inverter, not just "quality panels"
  • Mounting system, scaffolding and electrical certification
  • Battery details, if one is included
  • Grant paperwork, and the price before and after the grant
  • Payment schedule and warranty terms

Compare the price per kWp only once you have confirmed that the equipment and inclusions match.

4. Expect a proper site assessment

The right system depends on your roof's direction, pitch, shading and condition, and on your electrical board. Be wary of a quote based only on your bill with no visit. A good installer explains why they chose a system size and recommends what your roof and usage actually support, even if that is smaller than the largest system they could sell you.

5. Understand the warranties

There are usually three: the panels (product and performance), the inverter, and the installer's workmanship. Ask for the length of each in writing, and who you call if something fails: the installer or the manufacturer.

6. Be clear who handles the SEAI grant

Ask who completes the application, how long it usually takes, and how you receive the grant. No work should start before you have SEAI's Letter of Offer. Our guide to how the SEAI solar grant works explains the rules, and our SEAI grants page covers how we handle it.

7. Read reviews properly

Look beyond the star rating. Detailed Google reviews that mention the install day, communication and how tidy the crew left the house tell you far more. Check how the installer responds when something goes wrong, and ask for the address of a recent job nearby. You can read what our own customers say on our reviews page.

8. Know the red flags

  • Pressure to sign today, or discounts that expire when you leave
  • Offers of "free" solar panels, which usually come with strings attached
  • No registration numbers, or reluctance to show them
  • No written quote or contract, or vague descriptions of the equipment
  • Savings or payback promised with no explanation of the assumptions
  • Very large deposits before any work is done
  • Starting work before your SEAI Letter of Offer is in place

9. Ask about aftercare

Find out who sets up your monitoring app, who you call with a problem and how quickly they respond. It is worth knowing what support looks like in year three or year ten, not only on install day.
